Vovlo 280 Outdrive w-Chevy 350 V8; Exhaust Y-pipe & O-ring Replacement?

I have a 1985 Volvo Penta AQ260 (350 V8) and have removed the drive to replace all rubber bellows and hoses, incl. the the (2) rubber water exhaust hooks as they're called. I have removed the (4) bolts that hold the exhaust y-pipe inplace and have pulled the rubber exhaust hooks. To reinstall them, I have to pry the inboard y-pipe off and replace the o-rings, rubber exhaust water hooks, and replace the (4) bolts. Do I have to remove the engine to get full access to the base of the y-pipe or can I just slide it foward beneath the engine with the engine in place? Thanks, Chris
